Welcome thread for Mudcatters |

I have looked for and failed to find a welcome thread for Mudcatters.
So here is one and here am I on it. Of course I am someone else there, but some of you may be able to gues who I am. Should I list my guitars to give you a clue? |

Welcome to the TTT, Rumpole, and thanks for starting this thread. It didn't look to me like there were any Mudcatters who were going to show up here. So
let me also extend a warm welcome to any Mudcatters who want to join us here in the TTT. If there is any demand for it, and if the other members of the TTT
don't have any objection, I could put up a new forum just for Mudcatters to use for Mudcat related discussion.

I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner, Mike.
The folk music forum where Arch and I first met is anticipating a period of time during which the forum might become inaccessible from time to time because it is hosted on servers in the home of the owner, and he is moving house sometime soon. They were looking for a place to be able to discuss what is going on and stay in touch with each other during those times. Since things are pretty slow here anyway, I didn't think it would hurt to let them use some part of our forum for that. But there is a Facebook group that is related to that forum and it looks like they've decided to use that to keep in touch when the Mudcat is down.

Oh, I think it's handy to have more than one place of retreat. There used to be "the Annexe" which alas closed its doors. There is Failte Folk,
but some might be concerned at the possibility of a patriarchal disposition, and there is the Facebook bit - of which Max is a stated officer so if there is a
need for a site that is democratic, this may be the only option.
Mudcat is www.mudcat.org - a folk and blues music site with a BS section where politics gets rowed about. Max is the proprietor, the owner of the (moving) servers and the ultimate resort in case of dissension amongs members or with mods. What, no accordions?
That's a lot of guitars and mandolins. I wonder if there are any other democratically operated forums on the internet besides this one. So far, this is the only one I know about. There used to be a very small handful of regular posters from the UK here, but they moved off to another forum. We do get the occasional poster from the UK, but so far they haven't become regular posters.

Well, the mods issue may be about to kick off again over there on the Mudcat - both the Goodbye WeeLittleDrummer thread (He's actually Big Al Whittle and
very talented - google him) and the "Mockery" thread about the British Folk Awards have now been shut down by mods. I think there was a bit of
overreaction there.

The Mockery thread is back open now (as of the time of this post). I think that's part of the problem. They don't have a consistent, or even a
coherent or cohesive moderation policy over there. The Big Al thread started at the bottom and got moved to the top, then back to the bottom again. The
Mockery thread got closed and then reopened again. I think the moderators are fighting with each other for control, and nobody knows what's really going
on. Mick told me he is co-equal with Joe as a moderator there, but I don't think Joe considers Mick to have equal authority with him. And then there was
the moderator who was actually changing the contents of peoples' posts in a way that was intended to ridicule and mock them. The whole system seems to be
falling apart over there.

By the way, I should mention to the people who are new, if you don't like the ads, you can get rid of them if your're using Firefox with the Adblock Plus add-on. I highly recommend it.

You guys from the Mudcat, let me know if you wold like to have a section just for Mudcat related talk, or if you would prefer to post in the existing areas. If there is a demand for a Mudcat related section, I'll ask the rest of the membership if they have any objection to that. If they don't, I can put up a section for Mudcat related stuff.
