First off can anyone summarise the sound differences between bronze, 80/20 phosphor-bronze, brass, and I have recently seen 92/8 phosphor -bronze and some
strings alloyed with titanium?
Second, what about coated strings? I have for some time been an adherent of the 80/20 nanoweb Elixirs (12/56) but they are very expensive and there are other coated makes (the polyywebs I find a bit dull) - any suggestions? D'Aquisto don't seem to make coateds or I might try thier brss master 13/58s - or better still if they would do me a split set, 12/58s.
The only maker I know who will do custom sets (quite a few do do DADGAD sets) is Newtone, and I don't like his low-tension approach, it seems to me not to get the top of the guitar throbbing properly - infact one of his sets (I think 13/56s) were one of the only two sets ever I put on, played for a day to give them a chance, and took them straight off again (the other was something witha name like "Redwing" (presumably composed by someone who never read pulp novels about the Hell's Angels).
Open to suggestions!
